Introduction to Going Deeper
Prayer Ministry is (and continues at every stage to be) bringing a person into the presence of Christ and asking Christ either directly or through our mediation to act in love, healing, forgiveness and freedom in the present, past and future of the person to make them wholly(holy) the person God intends (and always intended) them to be.

The presence and power of Christ by His Spirit are the only true ministers. It is, therefore, vital that we, as prayer ministers, come as clearly into His presence and open ourselves to His ministry – the more He ministers to us in love, healing, freedom and forgiveness, the freer and more able we are to act as the mediator of these same things in a Prayer Ministry appointment.

There are skills in most areas of life which a person can use to accomplish the job – e.g. a carpenter will use plane and saw and screwdriver and hammer and whether he is proud or fearful or feeling guilty will not affect the end product (though it may well affect his relationships with colleagues). But in Prayer ministry, unaddressed sin or prejudice or fear limit our usefulness as ministers of God’s grace.

Therefore a course on ‘Deeper Ministry’ is necessarily about us first ‘going deeper’ or rather allowing Him to go deeper into us, much more than it is about learning a set of skills and practices which enable the ministry. But as we assist each other in allowing Him to go deeper and experience His loving touch ourselves, we will learn skills and practices and methods of assisting the Ministry of the Holy Spirit.

The basic skill, of course, is ‘Hearing God’. We need to renew our closeness and our hearing, as often the crucial factor in our own healing or our ministry to others will be the ‘revelation’ received by us and those who minister with or to us during the ministry. Many of the things we will deal with are by their very nature ‘unknown’ except by the Spirit of God who will reveal all things and lead us into all truth.

This course therefore will deal with sensitive and personal matters – it is a prerequisite that there is absolute confidentiality and trust of each other, if the ministry is to proceed. You will work in threes throughout the course, but, at any given point, you may have access to any of the facilitators of the course, where there is any problem beyond the possibility of the immediate group.
